Festival in Tsum Valley

Several festival celebrate across the year in different monastery and villages of the Buddhist valley, the culture influence of Tibetan. So all the festival celebrate as scheduled in Tibetan lunar calendar, the very first festival of the year is Losar which also known as new year in local dialect. It is meaningful festival for the Tsumba where they share enjoy and happiness with each other as well dance and sing with drinking rice beer. When is best season to do Tsum Valley Trek:

Day 03: 8 hours drive from Kathmandu to Lapubesi (900m/2,952ft)

The drive begins from Machha Pokhara bus station in the morning, the bus halt along the highway for the toilet and lunch breaks. The paved road drive is up to Dhading besi then off the boulevard on dusty and bumpy as well to Lapu besi. It is a scenic drive which also provides country side, valley and the mountains. After Arughat drive continues along the Budi Gandaki river on the paddies field and passing small towns.

Day 04: 8 hours trek from Lapubesi to Jagat (1,440 m/4,723ft)

We approximately trek 8 hours from Lapubesi to Jagat which also cover 18 km distance. We have easy flatten wider track from Lapubesi to Dobhan on the narrow boulder with mesmerizing view of lush and green in humid temperature. We have stunning waterfall view on east bank of the river as well. We will have break at Tatopani, natural hot spring and feel the Mother Nature as well. We probably stop at Dobhan for the lunch and cross the landslide section to Syauli Batti. Now climbing up throughout temporary Thulo Dunga village to Yaru besi. From Yaru Bazaar an hours trek on shore of the glacier River to Jagat.

Day 05: 6 hours trek from Jagat to Lokpa (2,240m/7,347ft)

Jagat is gate way of the Tsum and Nupri valley and should check superior permits before towards to next town. Roughly walking 6 hours and approximately distance is around 16 km to Lokpa. Several time crossing saggy suspension bridge also walking throughout the beautiful cluster village residence by gurung ethnic groups. We have easy trail without strenuous climb up to Gamphul with looking breathless view of Sringi himal. From the confluence junction we climb up on the hill to Lokpa Phedi where one guesthouse is available. Keep climbing up on pine forest with have sights of Ganesh himal to Lokpa. Only one lodging available here with sharing bathroom.

Day 06: 6 hours trek from Lokpa to Gho village (2,800m/9,185ft)

The climate dramatically change from here and feel colder in the morning, the length of trek to Gho villages is approximately 15 km which takes around 6 an half hours. Trek towards to Chhumling with brief descend then walk on steel bridge which built after earthquake destroyed the trail aside of the river. Strenuous ascent up into the rhododendron forest to the stone rest places at above. Again incline with passing teashop and cross suspension bridge before reach Chhumling for the lunch. So next trek across the villages of Tsumba with have outstanding view of green landscapes and waterfall. The villages are quite fascinating mixed of the stone, mud and clay. Gho village is confluence trail of Gumba Lungden and Chhumling.

Day 07: 5 hours trek from Gho village to Lar village (3,310m/10,856ft)

Trek set-off from Gho after delightful breakfast, we follow steep climb up trail on the shrubs with incomparable view of the mount Ganesh Himal, Boudhha Himal and unparalleled landscapes. Nearly 12 km distance from Gho to Lar village with walking beautiful villages Chhokang, Ngakyu, Lama Bagar, Burji and finally arrive at Lark Village just next to Rachen Gumba. We also visit Mile Rapa cave at lunch break and take a part to witness see Buddhist ritual at nunnery monastery.

Day 08:5 hours trek from Lar village to Mu Gompa (3,700m/12,136ft)

In the morning participant to watch morning ritual at Rachen monastery then trek begins after breakfast east bank of the Shiar Khola. We have flatten trail across the typical villages Phurbe, Pangdun, Chhule and Nile, a last permanently human habitation in Tsum valley. We still trek east site of the River where come cross meet with yak dung collecting even can see the train of the yak heading to Tibet to supplies. This area always see yak pasture also calf as well. Upon arrival at Mu Gompa room check in then have lunch at monastery kitchen. After rest short trek up on spur to Nuns monastery also called Dhephyudoma on lap of the Himalayas. Local said territory is residence of the snow leopard and often attack the young yak. From north side of the monastery can see the white marked path which is leading to Thapla Bhanjyang. Mu gompa provides brilliant mountains view with together tsum valley.

Day 09: 6 hours trek from Mu Gompa to Chhokang-paro (3,030m/9,938ft)

An early morning see sunrise on the surrounding mountains then delightful breakfast at the monastery. We drop-off on yak pasture, the path have lots maniwall and Buddhist chhorten. The Buddhist stupa in Tsum valley is very unique with traditional looks. It is around 6 hour's downhill trek to Chhokangparo with passing numerous villages.

Day 10: 6 hours trek from Chhekam-paro to Gompa Longdang (3,210m/10,528ft)

The trail drop steeply from Chhokangparo with passing intriguing old-age maniwall and cow pasture where might spot mountain goat and blue sleep as well. From Gho village trail turn left steeply down on the barely field to pristine Shiar Khola. Short trek on river shore then arrive tiny village (Tumje) with few house more known as Amchi residence which means medicine center in local dialogue. Again take left trail with steep climbing up on west bank of the river into the pine and rhododendron forest on slender valley. After earthquake Gompa Lungden got new building with ancient looks around 3 dozen nuns permanently stay here and practice the Buddhism daily. Limit basic lodging are available in the monastery with simple meals.

Day 11: Side trip to Ganesh Himal Base Camp (4,200m/13,779ft)

It would be longest hike day trip to Ganesh himal base camp on poorly trail inside the shrubs and hardly seen foot prints of previous trekker's. We begins trek with sufficient drinking water and proper foods as well energy bars. We follow uphill trail in pristine forest where often have roaring sound of the birds and deer's as well thriving of the wild herbs. These route basically for the yak herbs on summer camp and for local who collect Caterpillar fungus around May and June. We towards to Ganesh himal base camp on pebble physical demanding trail also pass the stone-hut which is for the yak herdsman. Once we finished trek into the forest continuing on the lateral moraine of Toro glacier. Around here hardly visible the track but we have professional guide who have been doing trek since long. We trek further up as far as we can continues and get marvelous view of Ganesh himal and the sacred valley. From here retracing to Gompa Longdang before get dark and attend daily ritual at Gomba.

Day 12: 6 hours trek from Gompa Longdang to Ripchet (2,910m/9,512ft)

First trek descends with Laudnag River to Domje then cross suspension bridge on east of village. Trek in the forest and come cross with other swing bridge on boulder. After short trek reach at Ripchet, from here you will see good landscapes of Chhumling, Chumchet and Siringi Himalayan range.

Day 13:7 hours trek from Ripchet to Jagat (1,440m/4,723ft)

We set off our trek from Ripchet with trek down to small stream between Chumling and Lokpa. After crossing stream trek ascend into the dense forest then descend from ridge to Lokpa. Now most of our trail is descending, we have tiny narrow trail from Lokpa to junction of Manaslu Circuit trail and then trekking through out beautiful village with stunning waterfall to Jagat.

Our trail goes along Budi Gandaki River and passing villages to Khorla Beshi.

As you doing Tsum Valley Trekking, Should have to have following trekking permits before entering to Tsum valley. You can only take these trekking permits government authorized local trekking company. Tsum valley Restricted Area Permits: US$ 35 for 8 Days from September to November : US$ 25 for 8 Days from December to August Note: Do not required TIMS cards because you buying restricted area permits.
Normal lodge/guesthouse base accommodation are available with western style and Asian squat toilet along Tsum valley trek. The cozy window room are neat and clean with twin sharing bed and one complimentary blanket. As we trekking in above the 3000 mtrs one blanket is not enough in cold temperature that why should have to have -10 ºc sleeping bag with you, do not have your own sleeping bag then Musical adventure trekking will arrange four seasonal sleeping bag for trek. From Lokpa chimney will be on in dining hall from 5 pm to 8 pm. Autumn (October and November) is best season trek to Tsum valley, the weather is dry stable and very clear without haze in the valley and no smoke in the mountain. The entire day walk will be enjoyable because modest temperature in the year. We do not advise you choose your Tsum valley trek in monsoon, lower section of trekking route before Jagat often face landslides due the the heavy rain in monsoon season (in between June-September). Then winter season (December-January-February) also not really good to visit Tsum valley because extremely cold and frequently snowfall above Chekkamparo.
You will not be responsible to carry your luggage from Arughat–Jagat–Chhekamapro–Mu Gompa-Soti Khola. The porters can carry load between 20 kg to 25 kg (sharing between two trekker's). Rachen Gomba (3,310m):

The largest nunnery monastery in the sacred Buddhist valley where around hundreds nunnery practicing Buddhism. The Rachen monastery is set near to Lar village in the sacred hidden valley. The monastery used run with support of upper tsum valley including 7 villages but from 2000 AD look-after by Kopan monastery. During the winter period nunnery took down to the capital, Kathmandu.

Mu Gompa (3,700m):

The isolate traditional Buddhism monastery is set at end of the valley at height of 3700 meter above the sea level on way to Tibet. The huge Buddhist gompa has different compartment and two slot have comfortable bed room for the visitor with sharing lavatory which is built with financial suppirt of Kapan monastery. The Lama still live in traditional house with made of mud, clay, stone with emblematic slate roof. Few monks guard monastery whole year even in the winter also Buddhist monks celebrate festival once year. The Mu Gompa used to be meditation place for monks then chief monks request to Tsumbo help to build proper monastery and construction completed in 1936.

Dhephyudonma Gompa (4,060m):

Another beautiful Nunnery monastery right above the Mu Gompa, before towards the this harmony monastery should check key at Chhule village basically nunnery are from Nele and Chhule village. It is around 1 hour gentle up trek from Mu gomba which would be great side trek. There are diverse section at monastery for the main temple and the residence. The monastery located at very peace environment on lap of the Himalayas. There are optional way to monastery but easiest path is from Mu Gompa.

Milarepa Cave (Piren Phu) (3.330m):

A holy cave is few minute gentle up walk from small Burji village, the myth said once a time Yogi Chyuchin had done meditation while traverse across the sacred valley verge of Nepal. At the cave still have foot print of Milarepa with incredible Buddhist spiritual texts on the wall and ceiling of the gufa. While trek up to Pigeon cave pass the plot of infertile land with Buddhist flags which determined curse of Milarepa to the local women. Several old-style stupa and the blowing Buddhist flags into the thin air around the Piren Phu also provides breath stop view of the Rachen gompa with rugged mountains. Gumpa Lungden (3,210m):

Most remote nunnery gomba in spiritual vale on shadow of holy Ganesh Himal and Siringi Himal. More than 800 years old Buddhist sites situated in middle of the jungle on yard of the Ganesh Himal in lower Tsum valley. The monastery had completely destroyed by 2015 April then now renovated fully with international fund and even built room for visitor also. The Gompa has around 20-30 young nunnery from nearby village who are practicing Buddhism. Basic meals area available like noodle soup, potatoes items, rice and Tsampa porridge (roasted barley flour which eat with any tea or hot water with butter and sugar). There is branch trail leading up from Tumje village along the river which came down from Ganesh himal glacier.

You should be up to date on routine vaccination where you are but the some of the health association WHO and CDC recommended get these vaccination before get into Nepal, like Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Typhoid, Japanese Encephalitis, Malaria and Rabies. This is simple reference for your packing list before board on your adventure from home. The items listed below will vary a slightly in the duration of trek and seasons. We suggest you purchase light trekking gears and easy drying as well. We have request pack only necessary substances for the trek and others keep in Kathmandu hotel at store-room then get back once returned from trek.
